MTV: New management team leads the news section
In the future two deputies, Imre Bednárik and Zsolt Németh, will work closely with news director Attila Kert. The three managers seek to establish a new kind of cooperation between national and regional news programmes.
The management of the news section of Magyar Televízió (MTV) has been renewed. Appointed by Balázs Medveczky, managing vice-president, from now on Zsolt Németh and Imre Bednárik will support Attila Kert as deputy news directors. Mr. Kert has led the news section since July 2006.
Zsolt Németh will be primarily responsible for the revision and renewal of the regional programme structure. Imre Bednárik will be responsible for the coordination of the editorial staff from “Híradó” (News), “Az Este” (The Evening) and “A szólás szabadsága” (Free Speech).
“One of our major duties will be to make the cooperation between MTV's national and regional news sections more effective”, said news director Attila Kert. He also added that the role of regional news broadcasting and the cooperation between local studios and the crews preparing well-known national news programmes should be made stronger.
Zsolt Németh (38), acting deputy news director as of 1 November, who continues to lead MTV’s Pécs studio, said: “The news programmes should include more regional information then ever. I am working on the establishment of a well-functioning regional network.”
His colleague, Imre Bednárik (44), who took his position on 15 November and has been awarded by the president of the parliament with the „parliamentary journalist of the year” prize, emphasized that MTV should broadcast more breaking news than any other channel. “Even in the competition for broadcasting breaking news first, MTV must not sacrifice factuality and professionalism. However, the renewal of our information collecting system can make us even more reliable in the eyes of viewers”, explained the new deputy director, who previously worked in the editorial staff of TV2's “Tények”.
The news programmes edited and broadcasted by Magyar Televízió are impartial. This is what the analysts of Demos Progressive Institute and Századvég concluded after their comparison of national news programmes, and what viewers say, according to surveys conducted by Szonda Ipsos and Forense.
Attila Kert attributes these results to the work done in the past two and a half years, which he will now continue with his two newly appointed colleagues. Their primary goal will be to broadcast even more comprehensive reports about the country and the world.
The national public service broadcaster has already proved its commitment to the Hungarian countryside by the highly successful “Balatoni Nyár”(Balaton Summer), a programme broadcasted throughout two summers and produced with the contribution of Zsolt Németh, as well as the roving Híradó series. The extension of the network of international reporters and the creation of Krisztina Bombera’s post in New York were major steps in MTV’s attempt to open to the world.
