MTV president election: new candidates expected
New aspirants are expected to fill the position of president of public television as posted in its election campaign by the presidential board of the committee. At least they explain the unprecedentedly extended application period by the uncertainties surrounding the domestic political situation and the new media law.
An unprecedentedly long period, over 5 months, have
been allowed for the election procedure for the president of the Hungarian
Television (MTV) by the presidential board of the committee supervising the
public medium, as written by the call for application published on Monday.
Vice president of the board said to MTI in an interview that new applicants are expected.
While the previous round ran for a period of a couple of days shy of two months, the round before that ran for three months. In this, the sixth, round there is a possibility to receive the application packages necessary for the procedure in almost a month’s time—the documentation can be redeemed by the applicants between April 27 and July 3.
The candidates may submit their ideas on August 24, while the personal interviews will commence one week later and, according to the schedule, will last for three days. A candidate must be named by the committee by September 4, who must be revealed, together with the societal delegates, to the grand committee, as described in the call for application.
We wanted to allow more time for the applicants, says the president of the committee, László Czeglédi in response to questions by MTI, along with his deputy, László Balogh. Latter confirmed that if they keep the two- or three-month schedule “only those will apply who have ready materials,” while no consensus has evolved around any of those contesting so far.
He mentioned among the reasons for the extraordinarily long deadline the uncertainties of domestic politics, alluding to the fact that it is unknown whether early elections will take place and when the new media law, which will fundamentally transform the operation of public radio and television also, will see the light of day.
